Bat Surveys for Planning Applications

If your project involves demolition, tree removal, or work near hedgerows or woodland, you may need a bat survey as part of your planning application.

When are bat surveys required?

Bat activity surveys can only be carried out between April and September, with maternity roost assessments specifically required between May and early August.

Our ecologists are licensed to conduct preliminary roost assessments, emergence/re-entry surveys, and provide mitigation strategies if bats are found.

Reptile Surveys

Many brownfield, grassland, and heathland sites support widespread UK reptiles such as:

  • Common lizard
  • Slow worm
  • Grass snake
  • Adder

Surveys are usually required if your development could impact suitable reptile habitat.

When are reptile surveys carried out?

Reptile activity surveys typically run between April and September, though this can vary by location and species.

Plan Ahead & Avoid Delays

Planning authorities often request ecological assessments early in the application process. Surveys are seasonally restricted, so early engagement avoids costly delays.
