From Soil Logging Courses to Phase 1 Desk Studies, it’s been an exciting 1st Two Months as a Geography and Geology, Graduate!

Since starting at Earth Environmental & Geotechnical on the 7th September, Bethany’s first few weeks of training have been exciting and extensive. She has already been involved in Phase 1 Desk Study reports and completed several training courses, including soil logging and first aid.

Into month two and Bethany has also completed asbestos awareness course and a geotechnical foundation design course. And with more training scheduled over the next months, it looks like Bethany’s induction will continue to be exciting.

“Since joining I have completed a short soil logging course, first aid course, CAT and GENNY course, and I am set to complete a further soil logging course in Banbury next week.

I would describe my first few weeks as exciting. I have learnt about a lot of things that I haven’t had the chance to do before, including windowless sampling and trial pitting out on site.”

The projects I have worked on so far have varied quite a lot, from a 6-ha agricultural field to a church site in Blackburn.

Bethany graduated this year with a BSc Geography and Geology, 2:1 she completed her dissertation on ‘The Regional Geology of Ossau, French Pyrenees’ and developed a range geological skill whilst independent mapping of the area.

She also completed a placement at Environment Agency, which consisted of networking with staff and linked companies (e.g., United Utilities) and communicating issues with river restoration.

“It is definitely exciting to put my university skills into practice. It is interesting to see scenarios in a real-life environment as in the past most of the work I have completed is based on hypothetical situations, so it is good to see the actual work and time scale required for a consultancy business.”

Earth Environmental & Geotechnical are really pleased to welcome Bethany to the team. She is an enthusiastic graduate, who not only has a real passion for the role, but she is also a qualification in PADI Open Water Diving and has represented Lancashire County Cricket Club.

Earth Environmental & Geotechnical have recruited several Graduates to work in Head Office and the regional offices based in North East, South and South West to support the growth of the business and continue to provide high quality, cost effective and pragmatic geotechnical, mining, geological and environmental services to our clients.

We are expanding our services and involved in exciting new projects throughout the UK. If you are interested in joining our team, please look at our current vacancies or send your CV to headoffice@earthenvironmental.co.uk
