Earth Environmental & Geotechnical South East Office

The environmental challenges presented by the geology in the south of England include the Kent Coalfield, a large surface coal resource area stretching eastwards from Canterbury into the Channel. This area contains abandoned surface mines and small, isolated spots marked as Development High Risk Areas. Development in the South East of England usually requires documentation to support regulatory requirements of Local Authority Planning, Environmental Health and Building Control Departments, and/ or the Environment Agency. Our team in Maidstone has extensive knowledge and experience of providing specialist site investigation, geotechnical engineering, environmental, and ground investigation consultancy services to clients throughout the South East of England and are always happy to advise clients on our services from contaminated land and ground investigation services to radon surveys and flood risk assessments.

There are areas of outstanding natural beauty, and special scientific interest, across the region, plus the additional challenges of coastal erosion and flooding. All of which need careful consideration and appropriate risk assessment to ensure planning permission, construction and project completion are all successful.

A successful new development or expansion starts with a detailed Phase 1 Desk Study followed by a clear understanding of ground conditions and appropriate Site Investigation and Risk Assessments.

If you are planning any development or require any Geotechnical or Human Health Risk Assessments, then our team at the Earth Environmental and Geotechnical South East Regional Office has the knowledge and expertise required, and are always happy to help.

The recent updates to the radon potential maps produced by UKHSA and BGS have seen areas of the south east move to higher radon risk ratings with some bands of elevated radon potential at the maximum 30%. Notable areas at potential risk include Folkestone, along the South coast from Worthing to Brighton, and inland areas such as Sevenoaks and Maidstone.
Radon surveys and Radon Monitoring in these areas are an essential part of risk assessment for property owners, property developers, employers, and the public sector (including schools and education providers).

South East Geotechnical Services

Earth Environmental & Geotechnical’s South East Office provides a comprehensive range of geotechnical and environmental consultancy services across the South East of England.

Our Maidstone branch is ideally placed for the M20 and provides Geotechnical and Environmental services throughout the South East Region. The South East Branch opened earlier this year to meet the increasing demand for Geotechnical and Environmental Site Investigation, Ground Investigation services, across London and the South East. The South East has some of the highest numbers of new build developments in the country, with numerous infrastructure, residential, commercial, industrial, and renewable energy developments. The team has been busy completing phase 1 desk studies, and an extensive range of site investigation and ground investigations throughout the area. Plus the recent changes in the radon maps have increased awareness for employer’s, landlords, and public sector building’s radon responsibilities, so the team has supported clients with radon surveys, radon monitoring, and radon mitigation designs where required.

The fantastic launch of the South East Office is a testament to the team who consistently provides high quality, cost effective, and pragmatic geotechnical, mining, geological, and environmental services to our clients in the South East.

If your project needs geotechnical & environmental assessments for planning permission, remediation design, foundation design, site investigations or any ground conditions work our degree qualified team is always happy to help.
