100 regeneration projects will support thousands of new jobs and boost communities.

Southampton County Council has been allocated £1,084,000 for the regeneration of brownfield Land to deliver new housing and to transform unused land into thriving neighborhoods.

“Derelict car parks, industrial sites, and town centre buildings that have fallen into disrepair will all benefit from the new funding, with the government supporting communities to bring land back into use.
The government has been clear it has a brownfield-first approach to building the homes this country needs through its long-term plan for housing and today’s announcement will help deliver that.”

Brownfield Land Development in Southampton and Hampshire.

Brownfield land is a site previously developed for industrial or commercial purposes and thus requires further development before reuse. The site may have been built on previously or may have been the historical site of an industrial factory or manufacturing facility. Regenerating and renovating brownfield land can bring these areas back into productive use to provide homes, recreational spaces premises and more.

Where demand for residential and commercial property is high, and available green spaces are low, brownfield sites have become an increasingly popular development opportunity. Brownfield land is seen as a great development option and everyone is keen to see brownfield sites brought back to life.

Step 1 in Developing Brownfield Land.

Phase 1 Desk study with site walkover

Before the brownfield land can be developed a clear understanding of what is being built on needs to be completely understood. Depending on the previous usage of land different types and levels of contamination can be found. The first step in any brownfield land development is a Phase 1 Desk study combined with a site walkover.

All brownfield land need to be assessed by an experienced environmental consultant before they can be redeveloped. This involves an analysis of the soil, groundwater and surface water through testing for hazardous compounds, and ensures that appropriate measures are taken to reduce identified risks and liabilities. Any development plans must be made compliant with current regulations.
Earth Environmental and Geotechnical have extensive knowledge of brownfield site development offering a full range of services to help with your development.

Phase 3 : Remedial Design Implementation Verification

The checks that you undertake into your potential site’s ground conditions will inform your remediation strategy and the costs that you can expect to be involved. This in turn will identify if developing the brownfield land is financially feasible.

At Earth Environmental & Geotechnical we work with many local authorities and councils to advice on brownfield land development. We can identify if the brownfield site is suitable for development. We can provide a remediation strategy that will ensure the site is safe and will provide land that can be redevelopment not only housing and commercial buildings, but also as open spaces for recreation, conservation, woodland and other community areas.
